LLG Coast to Coast for NAACP - Day 11

On our second to last day, we’re in Weed, California after another 405 miles from our riders. As we close out our campaign we wanted to share a more recent story. Read below about Brayla Stone. On June 25, 2020 Brayla Stone, a 17 year old girl was killed in Little Rock, Arkansas. Brayla was a young, trans black woman, and according to sources a man was paid to kill her. Police have essentially disregarded this case, stating that they are unsure of the circumstances of her death and do not have any leads to pursue action. The disregard of the police mirrors the elevated levels of black trans women arrests in comparison to white trans women and even white women. Black trans women are more likely to be arrested, and more likely to be killed than their white counterparts and non-LGBTQ. While we are seeing the biggest civil rights movement in United States history, it should be noted that the Stonewall Riots in 1969 which were led by the black trans community. That movement brought light to the injustice faced by the LGBTQ+ community, and the Black Lives Matter movement is doing the same.
