LLG Coast to Coast for NAACP - Day 5
Sunday was day 5 and the team’s virtual miles have now landed us in Santa Rosa, New Mexico; only having to cross into two more states to reach our goal! As we approach the halfway mark, we continue to reflect on the bigger picture of our #coasttocoastforchange discussion, as we bring to light stories of Black Americans who have been the victims of racial prejudice and injustices. This brings us to the story of Breonna Taylor.
On March 13, 2020 Louisville Metro Police Department performed a no-knock search warrant on her apartment; her boyfriend Kenneth opened gunfire on the police officers believing they were intruders, following that police officers opened fire and Breonna Taylor was shot eight times. Breonna Taylor was a 26 year old emergency medical technician who worked for University of Louisville Health, and worked in two separate hospitals emergency departments. Taylor attended University of Kentucky, graduating in 2016. She continuously expressed her joy of working in health care and how she enjoyed making differences in people's lives.
Since Taylor's death, Louisville has banned no-knock search warrants; however, there is still much to change. This is a coast to coast issue in our country, in cities and towns across America. We can no longer be silent.
